Roberto Ortiz is well known for his surrealist landscapes and abstractions. Louisianans will recognize the peaceful feeling a swamp can present and appreciate the outstanding blends of color used in his sky and land. Not completely satisfied with pure realism, Ortiz offers a glimpse at the surrealism that nature provides.

Ortiz's work is featured in the permanent collection of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. He has been affiliated with the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery since 1999 and has appeared in numerous group and individual exhibitions. Prior to his return to New Orleans in 1998, Ortiz owned The Secret Garden Gallery in Rincon, Puerto Rico that featured his paintings in a natural island setting. He received his BFA in studio painting from the University of New Orleans in the early 1980's where he studied under well-known Louisiana painters such as Doyle Gertjejansen, George Dureau, Robert Gordy and Jesse Poimboeuf. He is currently painting and running a gallery in Puerto Rico after evacuating from Hurricane Katrina.
