Black Outdoors: Crossing Boundaries

The Southeastern University Department of Visual Art + Design welcomes works by New Orleans artist Ruth Owens, in an exhibition titled Black Outdoors: Crossing Boundaries at the university’s Contemporary Art Gallery. Through her paintings and video works, Owens explores the concept of "The Great American Outdoors," particularly what that means to persons of color for whom the natural landscape was historically uninviting or dangerous. Monday–Thursday, 8 am–5 pm, with extended hours until 8 pm on Wednesdays, and Friday 8 am–12 pm. A public Zoom conversation between Owens and Gallery Director Cristina Molina will take place Tuesday, October 13 at noon. For more information, contact the gallery at (985) 549-5080.
