Children’s Pavilion, a new pediatric mental health hospital and outpatient center, was developed by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, in Norfolk, Virginia, to answer a pressing regional need for pediatric mental health services. The new facility is a colorful, sun-drenched environment filled with contemporary art selected to soothe, engage, entertain, and inspire.

Artist: Paul Villinski
Approaching the café is New York City-based sculptor Paul Villinski’s Celebration, which repurposes old vinyl records to portray birds soaring in flight. Record labels recognizable to families make up each bird’s unique plumage, evoking a joyous, musical migration made especially for CHKD.
PAUL VILLINSKI
Paul Villinski has created studio and large-scale artworks for more than three decades. The son of an U.S. Air Force navigator, Villinski has lived and worked in New York City since 1982.
Villinski’s work is widely collected, including major public works created by commission. In 2015, he installed three full-scale “flying bicycles” suspended overhead at a New York City Parks and Recreation track and field facility. A sculpture entitled "Dream Desk" was completed in 2014. Suspended over a school’s entranceway, the sculpture is comprised of a "flying school desk" with a 21' wingspan and features hand-written statements by hundreds of the school's students describing their dreams and aspirations.
With a lifelong concern for environmental issues, his work frequently re-purposes discarded materials, effecting surprising and poetic transformations.
